In the patois of the Glaswegian holidaymaker of yore, “Doon the watter for the fair†meant only one thing; a trip to Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula, Argyll and Bute. A 20 minute ferry ride from Gourock, Dunoon is the archetypical Scottish seaside resort, whose natural beauty and accessibility made it an annual pilgrimage for many a bucket and spade wielding family. Not that it is sandy, its shores are shingle, but the town under the gaze of Castle Hill has a whole host of activities to attract the visitor.
