The village of Disley lies about six miles south east of Stockport close to Peak District National Park and the Derbyshire border. A small village that is not noted in any historic books until around the early 16th century although it is believed that there has been a settlement here since Roman times as this would have been part of the main route for the Romans travelling between Buxton and Manchester. Around 1640 the local inn was built, the Ram’s Head Inn however the present building bearing this name wasn’t erected until the 19th century when it was used by travellers and tourists who because of the railways were now able to visit places like the Peak District.
