Crosshouse is a large village in East Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland situated on the Carmel Water, 2 miles west of Kilmarnock. The village developed during the 19th century to house the workers of the local coal mining and brick-making industries. Notable residents include, Andrew Fisher (1862 – 1928), who was born in Crosshouse, emigrated to Australia in 1885 and became the fifth Prime Minister of Australia from 1908-1915; a memorial cairn sits in the village beside the Carmel Burn.
