Crinan is a small fishing village on the Sound of Jura, mid-Argyll in the west of Scotland, situated at the north end of the Crinan Canal which connects Loch Fyne to the Atlantic Ocean. Crinan is famous as the location of the Crinan Canal, a waterway built in 1801 by John Rennie, the Crinan Canal stretches 9 miles across from Crinan to Ardrishaig, providing a shortcut for steamers and fishing fleets from Glasgow across the Kintyre Peninsula which would have been a rough130 mile passage to go around the Mull of Kintyre.
