Cowes is an historical town on the Isle Of Wight, which sits off the southern coast of England, it faces the smaller town of East Cowes and they are linked by a bridge. Visitors can choose the catamaran, the vehicle ferry, or of course sail their own craft into the natural harbour at the mouth of the Medina River. It's interesting narrow winding streets and elegant architecture from days long past has a nautical air, from it's humble beginnings of a clutch of fishermen's dwellings it grew, two coastal fortifications were built by Henry VIII to stand ever watchful against invaders from France, a ship building legacy began with Elizabeth I, and today sees a maritime feast and is famed for it's national, and international legacy of sailing races, and Regattas where colourful yachts and sails punctuate the horizon, and is also the home of the Royal Yacht Squadron.
