Chepstow is romantically sited at the confluence of the Rivers Wye and Seven. (Less romantically take the M48 Junction 2, admiring the magnificent span constructions of The Seven Bridge and Second Seven Crossing as you go.) This border town has always been strategically important - William the Conqueror ordered the castle’s construction here in 1067 to stop Welsh incursions and border rivalry is still thriving as some residents live in England, some in Wales - making for interesting discussions on match days! In medieval times Chepstow was exempt from English taxes – sadly no more! The castle is strikingly impressive staging regular, historical re-enactments.
