Cheadle is an ancient Market town, dating back to Saxon times, set within the Staffordshire Moorland, home to twelve thousand people. It was first granted it's Market Charter in the 13th Century by Henry III, and the market still continues today. There's a peppering of black and white timber houses that spans across the pages of time, the fabulous church of St Giles with it's 200' spire designed by Pugin who also designed the Houses Of Parliament, and a Market Cross that hails back centuries. Known as the gateway to the Churnet Valley there is much to occupy the choosiest of visitor, whether it's exploring the past at Croxden Abbey whose evocative ruins conjure thoughts of the 13th Century Cistercian monks, or possibly the fascinating exhibits at Cheddleton Flint Mill will unveil secrets of the two water mills, cottage, and kilns that sits by the edge of the Caldon Canal.
