Cheadle Hulme is in the North West of England on the Cheshire Plain in the south western part of Stockport Borough. It nestles alongside one of the tributaries of the River Mersey, the Lady Brook and has been a settlement since Stone Age Times. The area remained very sparsely populated and, unlike many other Northern towns and villages, the Industrial Revolution did little to change the way of life here in Cheadle Hulme, it still remained very much a rural settlement. The introduction of the railways and improved road network did however bring change, but rather than an industrial change it was a change in population.
