Charlton is a delightful part of south-east London, located between Greenwich and Woolwich. Its appeal comes from a mix of lovely old buildings, scenic parks and a charming village centre. At the heart of the village are a war memorial, horse trough and drinking fountain, all situated on a traffic island. It's surrounded by a number of fascinating places. St Luke's Church, in part, survives from the 1630s, and it's the burial place of Spencer Perceval, Britain's only assassinated Prime Minister. Charlton House, nearby, is an exceptional Grade I-listed Jacobean manor house, with many original interior features.
