Located in the Ormskirk parish of Lancashire in the North West of England the village has enjoyed a relatively wealthy history. Whilst not mentioned in the Domesday Book we do know that a powerful Saxon landowner was predominant in the area who was called Orm. He acquired this land by marriage to the daughter of a Norman nobleman and it appears in the record around the time of Richard 1 and again around this time a priory was founded by one Robert Fitz-Henry allegedly a descendant of Orm. Burscough though remained little more than a village until the coming of the canal network and the construction of the Leeds Liverpool canal in the 18th century was to have a significant impact on the village.
