“Buckfast†Meant a stronghold where deer and buck were held and “Leigh†Open pasture. Buckfastleigh is a small market town on the Southern edge of Dartmoor National Park. A climb up the hill above the town not only affords superb views of Buckfast Abbey, Dartmoor and the Dart Valley, but on its summit sit the ruins of Holy Trinity church. An outer shell is all that remains of the 13th Century building destroyed by fire in 1992. Still ringing out across the valley are the bells which survived and were re-hung.
