Brae is a town on the Mainland island of Shetland in the Northern Isles of Scotland situated on a neck of land separating Sullom Voe from Busta Voe 22 miles north of Lerwick. During the 1800’s Brae developed as a crofting township, a road was built through the village and a weekly steamer service was in operation by 1894. By 1975 Shetland became the centre of the North Sea Oil boom and the vast Oil Terminal at Sullom Voe brought about the rapid expansion and development to Brae. Surrounded by rolling hills and picturesque scenery this rural settlement is a tranquil tourist destination ideal for nature-watching, sight seeing, fishing and walking, there are hotels, a selection of shops and amenities and the North Mainland Leisure Centre.
