South-West of Matlock, nestled amid limestone hills, is the ancient Derbyshire village of Bonsall. The village owes its name to Bunt, an Anglian settler and his land “Bunteshalleâ€. Bonsall Brook through time has shaped the village. Today, from its highest point at Uppertown, it flows beneath High and Yeoman Streets to surface again at the Clatterway. Its water once powered the local cotton industry and also powered a corn mill, joinery mill and mill for shaping and polishing Blue John stone.
