Boat of Garten is a scenic village in the Highlands of Scotland situated in the Cairngorms National Park, high on the west bank of the River Spey between Grantown-on-Spey and Aviemore. Boat of Garten was previously known from c1600 as Gart but renamed in 1863 to the same name as the ferry and the newly built railway station. The railway closed in 1965 however; the scenic Strathspey Railway line, complete with authentic steam train was re-opened close to the centre of the village in 1978 linking Boat of Garten to Aviemore.
