Out of the way doesn’t begin to do justice to the location of the little village of Blackwaterfoot on the western coast of Arran, though it is one of the easier places to get to on that lovely island, linked to the more populated eastern side by Thomas Telford’s engineering feat ‘the String Road’. Many visitors arrive in Blackwaterfoot by boat, though its quaint harbour with an ancient stone bridge crossing the water could not be called vast. If it is peace and quiet you are after, and some fresh air to blow away the cobwebs, this village will do you.
