It is the town with no streets. Bombs, bullets and missiles, have formed the backbone of its economy since the Second World War – yet Bishopton is a modest little town of little more than 1,000 residents. Situated South of the River Clyde, in Renfrewshire, a stone’s throw from the Erskine Bridge, Bishopton is a short drive along the M8 from Glasgow, and since the enforced purchase of farmland in 1941, the village has been synonymous with the Royal Ordnance Factory, run by the MOD for over 40 years before being privatised in 1984.
