In the County of Warwickshire around six miles from Stratford on Avon is the quaint and picturesque village of Bidford on Avon lying adjacent to the River Avon with its stone bridge spanning the river. Originally this was a place convenient for crossing the river, then as the village grew around this ancient ford a stone bridge was built. The bridge dates from the early 15th century and because of its width it has always been an important crossing point. Whilst there has for some considerable time been a bridge present here it was at one time demolished by King Charles I to cover his retreat from Worcester to Oxford.
