Beyton is a small and characterful village of fewer than 600 inhabitants four miles to the east of Bury St Edmunds, these days bypassed by the A14 that used to go through it. There are no shops left in the village, but Beyton still has two pubs and a lovely village green and pond, this latter with a huge old oak and pretty meadow as background. As should be the case the village green, complete with its mature lime trees, stream and geese from central casting, is a focal point of the settlement.
