15 miles north east of Worcester along the Seven Valley is the picturesque town of Bewdley. By the time of William the Conqueror it was part of the manor of Kidderminster and by the late 12th century was in the hands of the Mortimer family. These were prosperous time for "beau lieu" (French for beautiful place) as it had became known and 1472 King Edward IV incorporated the town as a Borough which allowed the town to have its own Coat of Arms, hold Markets and hold its own court sessions. This prosperity was as a result of the towns location on the River Seven and its closeness to the Wyre Forest.
