Bellshill is a suburb in North Lanarkshire in Scotland situated two miles north of Motherwell and nine miles south-east of Glasgow with the South Calder Water flowing to the south. Well-known people born in Bellshill include politician Robin Cook, singer Sheena Easton and footballer Ally McCoist. Originally the settlement was known as Bellmill and consisted of a row of quarry workers houses working in the local stone quarry c1654, the village disappeared after the quarry closed but re-emerged in 1810 as Bellshill, the railway arrived during the 19th century and the village developed as a mining centre.
