Beith is a small rural town in North Ayrshire, Scotland situated at the east of Kilbirnie Loch, 19 miles south-west of Glasgow. The town overlooks the Garnock Valley, once known as the Hill of Beith. From Gaelic Beith means ‘Birches.’ Dr Henry Faulds an originator of forensic finger-printing was born in Beith in 1843 and Reverend John Witherspoon was a Church of Scotland minister at Beith from1745-1757, where he married and lived at 32 The Cross, he immigrated to America later and became famous as one of the signatories of the United States Declaration of Independence.
