Beauly is a large village in the Highlands of Scotland situated at the mouth of the River Beauly, 12 miles west of Inverness. The village grew around Beauly Priory built in 1230 by Valliscaulian monks from Burgundy. The ruins of the priory stand at the eastern corner of the main square. It is though the French Monks may have made wine here and tradition continues 4 mile west at the Moniak Castle Winery. Beauly comes from the French for ‘beautiful place’ as the name suggests Beauly is set in beautiful surroundings with wooded hills and fertile farmland.
