Aultbea is a village in Wester Ross in the Highlands of Scotland situated 5 miles north of Poolewe on the east shore of Loch Ewe. During both World Wars, Aultbea was used by the Home Fleet as deep-water sheltered anchorage for their ships and Arctic convoys heading for Russia were assembled here during World War II. Following the wars Aultbea was used as a naval base for refuelling ships. Surrounded by Highland wilderness, rolling mountain ranges and beautiful beaches, Aultbea, is a popular tourist destination ideal for climbing in the Torridon Mountains, walking and cycling in the Laide and Aultbea Community Woodlands with walking tours available, fishing in the scenic sea-lochs and nature-watching the local wildlife which includes wildcat, pine-marten, eagles, whales and dolphins.
