The village of Ashby St Ledgers lies close to the A461 Daventry Road in Northamptonshire, about half way between Rugby and Daventry. Ashby St Ledgers is an attractive village with a long history. It was first mentioned in the Domesday Book as Ascebi (Ash tree settlement). During Norman times a church was built and dedicated to St Leodegarius, from which the modern day name St Ledger's is derived. The manor was originally gifted to Hugh de Grentemaisnil by William the Conqueror and passed through several owners before passing to the Catesby family in 1375.
