Ardrossan is a sea-port and former burgh on the Coast of North Ayrshire, western Scotland, on the north side of Irvine Bay, 17 miles north of Ayr and is part of ‘The Three Towns’ along with Saltcoats and Stevenston. Ardrossan was given burgh status in 1846 Ardrossan famous for the event known as ‘Wallace’s Larder’ at Castle Craig in 1296, William Wallace lured occupying English soldiers from the castle, by torching the village, the returning soldiers were slaughtered and their bodies thrown into the dungeon; the ruins of Castle Craig still stand.
