Acharacle is a village and the main centre for Moidart and Ardnamurchan situated at the end of Loch Shiel, in Lochaber, in the south-west Highlands of Scotland. Loch Sheil is an 18 mile long freshwater loch carved by a glacier during the last Ice Age, known as ‘the last wilderness’. The historic ruins of Castle Tioram built c.1200, stands north of Shiel Bridge on Dorlin Beach at the mouth of Loch Moidart. During the 14th century the Castle was the stronghold of the MacDonald clan, before being burned in 1715 by the Jacobites.
