Set on the edge of the village of Briston, in gardens of almost two acres, Drakes Cottage is close to all the best that North Norfolk has to offer. The cottage adjoins the owners’ traditional Norfolk farmhouse, which dates from around 1625. The house had high status in that period, having servants’ quarters in the upper storey, and was originally thatched. Because of the size of its rooms and internal layout, it is believed to have been built as a hostel for pilgrims journeying en route to the shrine at Walsingham, many of whom will have stayed in Drakes Cottage itself. ..
