Salisbury is an early example of a new town purpose built on a totally clear and level site following Bishop Richard Poores decision in 1220 to move the original Cathedral from old Sarum a bleak wind swept hill fort on the out skirts of the city. Salisbury is a lively vibrant city dominated by a cathedral of exceptional beauty topped by Englands tallest spire standing at an impressive 123m 404ft.This Gothic Masterpiece housing one of the four remaining copies of the nations most historic doucuments the Magna Carta stands in the close. The close not only houses the cathedral but also Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum The Wordrobe Military Museum Mompesson House and The Medieval Hall. Twice Weekly markets are still held in the central square. Colourful bustling noisey friendly and full of exciting aromas from freshly ground coffee and fresh bread to spit roast chicken doughnuts and newly cut folwers. Also Carpets clothes shoes jewllery kitchenware mobile phones and wooden furniture in fact the range of goods on offer is endless are also at exceptional prices. Salisbury is also a great base for exploring. Both providing excellent entertainment all year round. PLEASE NOTE Due to our central location we are unable to offer on site parking however there is a large pay and display car park just a short walk from the lodge. 8am 6pm 5.00 6pm 8am sundays and bank holidays free of charge. You are able to buy a ticket after 6pm that will start from 8am the following day.
