People often find themselves in Alderley Edge town centre completely by accident, often from nearby Macclesfield in search of NHS dentists of which Alderley Edge, unlike the rest of that part of Cheshire, has in abundance. It even boasts a pain free dental clinic for the dental phobic among us, which is how I found myself looking in a traditional cake shop window totally charmed by a home-made ginger bread house. With a range of shops including greengrocers, bakers, butchers, some enchanting flower shops and a tiny friendly post office all along a very peaceful high street, a visit to Alderley Edge feels like stepping back in time to a much gentler, friendlier age.
