The village of Winkton lies in the Avon Valley on the Ringwood to Christchurch Road. The village is currently part of Hampshire. In its rural setting, Winkton is a fine example of a charming old English village. Its origins date back to the Domesday Book of 1086, when it was known as Weringtone. The name probably refers to the fact that it was the spoils of a battle between Vikings and Saxons. The village comprises a mixture of buildings with small rows of terraced cottages from various periods as well as imposing houses and gardens dating from the 18th to the 20th century.
