Home to ‘The Long Man’ carved into chalk hills a 235 feet giant although very interesting, there are other things to tempt you. This sleepy village boasts a 12th Century Church and Priory built by Benedictine Monks, many old buildings to enchant the visitor, the oldest being ‘Hunters Dene’ built about 1450. A visit to the church complete with ancient Yew Tree, said to be older than the church, bewitches the visitor with it‘s magnificence. To enter through a 14th Century porch is one thing, the splendour of the stained glass windows another, but as the history of this building seeps into your thoughts and places you back into Norman Times, is something else.
