Wheatley is a village six miles east of Oxford, in Oxfordshire. Finds from a Saxon cemetery discovered in Wheatley in 1883 are housed in the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford. Wheatley used to be known for its stone quarrying. The stone was used for buildings during the 13th and 18th centuries which include Windsor Castle and Merton College. The village lock-up, built in 1834, is a pyramid-shaped stone structure standing near the edge of the old quarry site. More recently it has been opened every May Day as a visitor attraction.
