A small market town dating back to Saxon times, situated on clay hills in East Sussex, only 6 miles from Tunbridge Wells, was the hub of the iron Industry in times gone by. The town was granted a Market Charter by King Henry 111 in 1253. The magnificent church of St Peter and St Paul dominates the centre of the town with it’s impressive Norman Tower dating back 900 years, and a tall lean spire towering 130feet, is a must, the unusual iron grave slab memorials lays testament to the link in history with the Iron Masters that led to a great deal of wealth, their great Georgian houses still in the high street.
