Thurnham is a tiny, secluded hamlet set in idyllic countryside. And although it provides a perfect escape from the nine-to-five world, it's still only three miles north-east of Maidstone, with all of its facilities and visitor attractions. Thurnham, however, has sights of its own to explore. The peaceful ancient church of St Mary The Virgin is close to the Pilgrim's Way, the legendary path leading over the North Downs to Canterbury - immortalised by Chaucer in "The Canterbury Tales". A short distance north of the church are the ruins of the 12th Century Thurnham Castle, which affords sensational views over the Weald.
