About five miles west of Peterlee and six miles east of Durham, in north east England in County Durham, lies the village of Thornley. The village is part of the Sedgefield constituency of which former Prime Minister Tony Blair was Member of Parliament from 1983 to 2007. The church of St Bartholomew, dating from 1843 and sited in the heart of the village was demolished in 2007 with plans for a housing development to be built on the site once the gravestones have been moved. The stained glass windows are being preserved however with plans for them to be displayed in the future.
