Templecombe is located on the A357 road five miles south of Wincanton and twelve miles east of Yeovil in the county of Somerset. The village has a population of about 1,500. The history of Templecombe is an ancient one. Abbas and Templecombe were formerly two separate estates and villages. Abbascombe was held by Shaftesbury Abbey since Saxon times. Earl Leofwine, brother of King Harold owned the other manor, but after 1066 was given Bishop Odo of Bayeux. In 1185 it was granted to the Knight's Templar and made into a regional centre for their Order, admitting new members and training them for the Crusades.
