Situated in a dry area of the Somerset Levels, the village of Street is found two miles along the A39 Bath Road, South West of Glastonbury at the edge of the Polden Hills. The origins of Street go back to Celtic times, when the settlement was known as Lantokay, meaning the Sacred Enclosure of the Saint Kea, a Celtic saint who had dealings with King Arthur. Some have attempted to link him with Sir Kay of Arthurian Legend. The Roman causeway Fosse Way from Glastonbury was rebuilt in the 12th century, giving Street its name (from the Latin 'strata' meaning paved road).
