Stony Stratford is “The Jewel of Milton Keynes†in North Buckinghamshire –one of the most desirable residential areas in the city. This busy market town began life in Norman times, becoming a sizeable settlement by the late Middle Ages but suffering great fires in 1736 and 1742, destroying most of the town and meaning that the current High Street dates from the 18th and 19th centuries mainly, except for the chapel of St Mary Magdalen which escaped devastation. This High Street was redecorated to a Development Corporation colour scheme in the 1960s and is now a conservation area, along with the wildlife of Ouse Valley Park.
