Sawrey is a picturesque village skirting the western edge of Lake Windemere, cloaked by soul pleasing countryside in the county of Cumbria. The village has attractive white painted cottages and quiet lanes, and is overlooked by the woodland of Claife Heights . It's renowned for it's link with the acclaimed children's author Beatrix Potter who moved here in 1896, the village and stunning countryside inspired memorable characters, Hilltop, was Beatrix Potter's home that was built in the 17th Century, now it's an intriguing museum with her furniture and fabulous drawings proudly on display, and for any aspiring authors a must.
