Roslin is an ancient village in Midlothian in Scotland situated east of the Pentland Hills on the bank of the river North Esk between Penicuik and Lasswade, 6 miles south of Edinburgh. Roslin was created a burgh in 1456 and grew with mining as its main industry until the 1960’s. The tranquil village is well-known most recently for cloning ‘Dolly the Sheep’ in the Roslin Institute in 1997 and for the architecturally interesting late-gothic Rosslyn Chapel with beautifully detailed carved stonework which includes the unique knotted Prentice Pillar at the south-east end of the Lady Chapel.
