The gracious detail of the architecture of the Georgian era has been retained in the Best Western Kings Head Hotel building but modern features have been added for the comfort of our guests. All bedrooms have marbled tiled en-suite bathrooms. Gold plated fittings, large fluffy towels and a selection of toiletries add to the comfort. The bedrooms are individually decorated and are equipped with direct dial telephones, baby listening, hairdryers, hospitality trays, satellite television and clock radios. For special occasions, we have four superior rooms, one furnished with a four-poster bed and having access to the bathroom via a secret door. Bar meals are served on the ground floor -Zetland Bar- every lunchtime and evening. The menu is reasonably priced and offers an interesting selection. Interesting too is the choice of local hand pulled cask beers along with the plentiful stock of whiskies and brandies. On the first floor is the hotels charming restaurant, offering views across the cobbled market square towards the castles norman keep. The Best Western Kings Head Hotel is frequently the first choice for wedding receptions and the Georgian ballroom provides a beautiful setting. The Best Western Kings Head Hotel is an excellent base for day trips to the cities of Durham, Ripon, York and other attractions like the outstanding Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle in addition to Darlington, the birthplace of the railways. Beamish open air museum, the Lake District and Whitby can all be reached in a little over an hours drive. Horse race enthusiasts have a choice of several racecourses at Catterick, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby, York and Redcar. There are over 500 racehorses in training in Richmond and nearby Middleham.
