A quintessential English village in Buckingshire is Quainton (previously Quainton Malet after the Malet family who were lords of the manor until 1348), 5 miles to the north-west of Aylesbury. The population is just over 1200, there’s a church, a school and 3 pubs! However, the village has certainly played its part in history. The church of St Mary and the Holy Cross dates back to the 14th century and a translator of the King James version of the Bible is buried in the chancel there. The windmill, overlooking the village green, was built in 1830 and is the tallest in the county at 65ft.
