Parracombe is an attractive village with a small population in North Devon. It lies within a fold of Exmoor called the Heddon Valley. The river Heddon flows through the village; a trickling stream in Summer, but a raging torrent at the height of Winter storms. The floods which devastated Lynmouth in 1953, reached Parracombe, drowning one resident and causing much damage to property. Parracombe has a school, shop, inn and two churches. The old church dedicated to St Petrok stands on the moorside high above the village.
