Oswaldkirk is a tiny village standing on the southern rim of the North York Moors National Park. In 2002 the population was said to be just 219, living in 97 households, though the village is still large enough to support a pub and have two working churches. The church of St Oswald gives the village its name, and has been on this site since before the Normans arrived, though the original Saxon wooden construction has left no traces, and what can be seen today is largely Norman, with some later additions and renovations.
