Newport (in Welsh - Casnewydd) is Wales’ third largest city with a population of over 140,000 . Newport stands on the banks of the river Usk between Cardiff and Bristol. Newport got its name when nearby Caerleon ( the old port ) fell out of use as ships got too large to navigate up the river but ,of course, Newport has a much older heritage as the ruins of the C12 castle near the city centre can testify. Today Newport benefits from much investment and regeneration . There are the usual out of town shopping opportunities but also some quaint and unusual ,city centre, outlets .
