Described as the 'Gateway to the Quantock Hills', Nether Stowey is a small yet busy and thriving village in the Sedgemoor district of Somerset. The village has been designated a Rural Centre, yet is easily accessible via the A39. The village dates back many centuries, referred to in Anglo-Saxon times as an agricultural settlement on the military road linking Cannington and Williton. The Doomsday Book mentions it as being one of four separate manors. It has a very long and interesting history. Close to the village are the remains of the 11th century Motte and Bailey castle, which gives a fantastic view of the village.
