Muthill (pronounced Mew-thil) looks across the River Earn from a north facing slope in Strathearn, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, 3 miles south of Crieff and is on the route of the Coast to Coast Walk from Oban to St. Andrews. Muthil is a Conservation area with many buildings listed. The ancient village founded by Culdee Monks was once an important religious centre, a visible reminder of this is the 15th century pre-reformation church, the foundations date back to 9th century, the once detached 21ft square bell-tower dates from 12th century, with late Anglo-Saxon round headed two-light windows, the tower contains a Christian cross-slab and an effigy of the Earl and Countess of Strathern.
