Morden is a south-west London suburb bordered by Wimbledon and Merton to the north and Mitcham to the east. This was once a rural village grouped around the hilltop parish church of St Lawrence. The present Grade 1-listed church building survives from 1636 although it was later extended. Today's Morden is largely residential with a busy town centre and a popular market. Its newest landmark is the spectacular Baitul Futuh Mosque, reputedly the biggest mosque in Europe, which has been rated among the world's finest fifty buildings by Spectator magazine.
