This pretty village in East Sussex 10 miles from Royal Tunbridge Wells with it’s past firmly in smuggling and the notorious Mayfield gang renowned for ‘Owling’ (smuggling of wool). With delicious countryside to be explored and many black and white houses in the village from yester year, the unusual high street with raised red brick pavements unique shops and several old Inns, begs to be photographed or sketched, an ideal place to be. Mayfield has links with the past as far back as Saxons, when St Dunstan built a wooden church and a home next door, which is now a girls school.
