The parish and village of Martinhoe sit high on the cliff tops overlooking the North Devon coast. Its elevated vantage point offers some of the most scenic and breathtaking views of this beautiful part of England. The hog-backed cliffs below are a feature of this part of the British coastline. Steep and rocky cliffs provide great climbing opportunities and have long been favourites with experienced climbers who enjoy the challenge of the irregular and rugged cliff faces. There is evidence that the area was once an important Roman settlement and site of a signal point from where they kept a watch out for invaders.
